MANHATTAN

Since COVID-19 hit New York, there has been a constant drum of people in the media saying that the city is dead. As a life-long New Yorker, I couldn't disagree more. Even now the city is alive and vibrant, and soon it will be back better than it’s ever been.

I wanted to make a project that’s a tribute to the city I love, and the opening sequence of Woody Allen’s Manhattan seemed a perfect fit to show the vibrancy and resilience of New York today. In (mostly) recreating the intro shot-for shot I was surprised by just how much the city has changed in the 40 years since the original was made, but even more taken aback by how much is exactly as it was back then. Even though it’s always changing, New York is the greatest city in the world - and it always will be.
